ABRAHAM AND HIS FAMILY
66Foundation scripture: Genesis 11:27-32, 12:1-8.
Abraham (formerly Abram) was born in the Ur of Caldeans located in today’s Iraq. He was the son of Terah, who had three sons: Abraham, Nahor and Haran. Terah, father of Abraham was not called to go to the Promised Land but Abraham was.
Lot was the son of Haran who died in Ur.
It is very important to have priorities in order.
Abraham put God in first place and then second, his wife Sarah. Family is an important part of our lives, but we have to listen God. Not only listen to God but also to repeat out loud what God said. Abraham received faith by hearing and repeating. This is why he was a man of faith and the founder of faith.
Lord said to Abraham:
Genesis 12:1 Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will show you.
Abraham should take his wife Sarah and go to the land by faith that God promised to show him.
But Abraham took more than his wife. He took his father, his brother and his nephew Lot.
There were consequences when Abram (Abraham) left his home. He spent time in Haran and it slowed down his originally planned trip. In Haran, Abraham became wealthy and gained thousands of servants and at the same time 318 trained servants to fight if needed. It was dangerous for Abram to stay in Haran against God’s plan.
Abraham’s father Terah died in Haran at a good old age.
We wonder what would happen if man had acted differently.
Abraham later did not have to go to war if he did not take his nephew Lot to new land.
To clarify, Haran was the brother of Abraham and also Haran was place where Abraham dwelt before his entry into Canaan – the Promised Land.
Abraham was 75 years "young", when he left Haran and entered Canaan.
The Lord spoke to Abraham when he entered the Promised Land.
They did not have children since Sarah was barren.
Then they tried to help God and Abraham had a son Ishmael through the Egyptian servant Hagar. God did not say to listen to Sarah at that time.
An interesting fact is after the situation with Hagar, that God did not talk to Abraham for 25 years until he was 100 years old. Many struggles came since they did not hear (or listen) to God, but listened instead to their own souls (minds).
Ishmael was a son of the flesh, but Isaac, later, was the son of promises, supernaturally (spiritual) by faith. He was a great gift of God to Abraham.
Later we received the Son of God, the perfect gift for all of us. His name is Jesus.
Conclusion: It is better to listen to God, instead of our own understanding. Walking by faith is best way. One must have faith substance (Word of God) to have result.

In a time when the instability of families continue to escalate and the definition of family changing, it is good to be reminded of role kinship relationships played in the development of Christianity. Thank you for this inspiring hub.
Vladmir Uhri, Wonderful wise hub! There is much spiritual warfare to divide families and as Rev Lady stated: "The instability of families continue to escalate and the definition of family changing." More and more listen to the world and fewer and fewer to GOD...
As you stated: "It is better to listen to God, instead of our own understanding." AMEN! You are so RIGHT! Thank you for sharing this wise informative and timely hub! Blessings!
