WORDS ARE NOT THOUGHTS

61

By Vladimir Uhri

Words are words and thoughts are thoughts. Everyone knows it but it took time for me to sort it in my heart during my journey with the Lord.

We often used to pray in our minds, believing God knows what we were praying and thinking. At the same time we also thought that the devil is smart, experienced, listening and also reading our minds, but he isn’t. When we learned he wasn’t we stopped magnifying Satan as we used to before.

Living under a communistic regime, a person since their life could be ruined. My dad used to say: “You can think what ever you want but do not talk, or you will get in trouble.”

But without speaking people never get to the truth.

Speaking the Word is something that irritates the devil.

Words are absolutely important. They are superior over thoughts. Words are producing the faith, but thoughts do not. By words God created the universe, not by thoughts. They were filled to the maximum with faith and this is why they work as they were designed.

We know that a person can’t even blow out a candle with their thoughts. The courts recognize only the record-able words of a witness. The thoughts do not count at all in a session of court proceedings.

Still some religions promote that the thoughts are an important part of religious life. But they are self-created religions without understanding. Silent prayers, works and deeds are performed and are demanded in those religious institutions. Many religious people promote a good example rather than talk. Many believe that talk is cheap and could even be offensive. I usually say that if someone is offended, then it is his or her problem, not mine.

In 1987 and 1992 I published a book in Slovak about Christian meditation. It is different from eastern meditation.

The revelations were instrumental to me and helped me to live a victorious life. Devil will not listen to our thoughts since he cannot read it. He understands only the spoken authoritative command. We must use our authority and send him away. Silent Christianity is unsuccessful and then when troubles come the Christian often blames the sickness on God, that he was teaching us something. Well we know that testing brings patience, but it is not enough. Patience is a fruit of the spirit. We do not need to be taught patience by paying the price with diseases. Some say the Lord would like to tell me something. The Lord would like to teach me something. I have heard this many times. But it is a voice from hell.

Man-made religion is always wrong. We must rely on the Word of God. The Word of God has to be built in our spirit to bring results. The word in our spirit has to be changed to faith and released again with words. Silent meditation and relaxation techniques are without power. It may just bring only discipline, but never faith. A natural mountain will not move without supernatural power. The Bible says that no Word of God is without power. Being positive helps and is important but could not be isolated as its own power source from the Word of God.

This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success (Joshua 1:8). The verse does not say the word (book) from your mind but from your mouth. Of course we do not eat the book. We speak the book.

Results follow the faith-filled Word.

I like what you say about words. Too many people say, "It's the thought that counts." I say, "No, it's the deed...it's what's done that counts - including speaking." God says that faith comes by hearing the Word. Obviously no one can hear it without someone else speaking or reading it.

Talk, people!

Joy, I really appreciate your comment. The thoughts are mostly products of our flesh, but Words we receive are from God and He is never wrong. Of course there are other voices we have to guard ourselves from. We must train our-self to speak Word of God to get results.

Of course. Just because the enemies of God can't read our thoughts doesn't mean they can't speak and influence us.

You are absolutely right. Then we have other advantage - spirit of discernment. Then we have another weapon - the Word.  When I speak the Word I seen the enemies are running, since they cannot stand the WORD.

You bring up great scriptural references to back up your assertion. I do know you're right, there is a power in speaking to God, about God and against demonic forces. I know that I should be praying verbally. I also know God knows my mind, but praying out loud helps to solidify in my spirit what I understand as wel, and I know that God wants that from me because it takes effort and time instead of relying on an easy out from prayer, (sometimes it is an effort).

A little less seriously, I also talk to myself, and I answer my own questions, and I know there's power in that too, power to take me to the funny farm!

Yes, I promote the speaking and praying aloud, since I do not make the rules, but He, our awesome God. When we are aligned with the Word then our spirit is also giving us new revelations. Do you pray in the spirit also? Bless you, bro.

Vladimir, I am not sure what you mean by praying in the spirit. If you're talking about speaking in tongues, then yes, I also pray in Dutch, but that is the only other language I pray in. I f you're talking about what sounds like babble, no, definitely not, there is no scriptural support for "laughing in the spirit," or babbling, or anything that is indiscernable to the people of God. Sometimes I pray in my mind, when I do not want to break the silence and serenity around me in Creation, or at a restaurant. I believe God said to pray in our closet because it is not meant to be a show. Hope I haven't offended you, that was not my meaning.

Oh, absolutely not. I just would like to know about the people and I do enjoy communicating with you. From my past culture we had misunderstanding that prayer in spirit is silent language by own words, rather than prescription prayers, like Our Father etc. I have ready hub to talk a little about my experience, which I think it is neat. Please receive my blessing. Glory to God.

This is awesome, Brother.  I wouldn't discount thoughts altogether because, after all, Jesus said even to picture adultery in our minds is like doing it.  But I do get your drift.  On the positive side, we need to speak out the Truth.  And the written Word ain't bad either. :D

I agree, the thoughts are part of us. But I am talking about priority as the faith is concern. Actually nobody teach us so far how to really exercise the faith. All is just comandments. The words are producing faith and thoughts only information or ideas. According to my experience the words overpower thoughts. Let say you worship aloud and you find out you do not sin the same time.

"Man-made religion is always wrong".

Greatly said!

"We must rely on the Word of God."  Words of God are 10 commandments, right? All the rest is men-written, right?

Vladimir Uhri 2 years ago

Not really. God trusted man to wright it right. Since He demands faith from us He must to have faith in us. Am I right? This is really mutual relation.

But you are right that God written the Ten commandment and rest was written by man. But first God's written tablets were broken then Moses had to write it again. So entire Bible is written by man. :-).

Thanks for good point. Bravooo.

It is as if you are reading my mail with some of the things you talk about in this hub. I used to pray out loud all the time to God. And I don't know how or when, but somewhere down the road I stopped praying out loud because I believe in being careful with my words, since I have come to understand the power they carry. I didn't want satan to become aware of my plans, for fear that he would try to thwart them.

I became offended one night when I heard a minister say something that I thought, at the time, was negative comment concerning "silent prayer". I felt that prayer was prayer and that it didn't matter if I spoke out loud to God or if I spoke in my mind to Him. I also used as a justification to myself, the fact that The Bible talked about Hannah praying and Eli heard no words coming from her mouth. God honored her request. He heard her. So I belived I could and should continue to commune with God without speaking out loud. I would think about what the minister had said from time to time, because a part of me wondered "what if she was speaking the truth?' I really didn't know. A few weeks later, I knew God was speaking to me when I read your Hub 'Why Jesus Went To Lonely Places'. I had my answer.

Now I am back on track in my praying and I understand the importance of praying out loud to The Father.

Hannah moved her lips, she could hear herself. It does not mean that everyone had to, except God. Well I think a lot about God and His Word. But when I make petition I speak laud. Or when I praise Him.

When I do not want to be heard by the devil I speak with prayer tongue. If one seen Jewish community, they never pray silently. But it was stolen from us via pagans.

One has to speak to problems, since the problems are deaf or having not ears. But God does.

God can read our mind but He makes the rules, not me.

It is blessing when I read your comments. Thanks.

Very good points about Hannah and about praying in tongues. And yes, God makes the rules. I just didn't know that I should always pray aloud. I didn't think it mattered, as long as I prayed. Sometimes we get off track, and God uses people like you to help us see the light. I now know the proper way, and I use it daily(as I once did).

Your hubs help me grow even further in my walk with God, that's why I love reading them. Some I'll go over and over because I need them. God bless you, brother, for being such a strong voice on hubpages. Know that you, through the power of the Holy Spirit, are changing lives.

And your comments bless me as well. Thank you very much.
